Ukusetshenziswa kwe-kaolin kuhlanganisa:
Njengento edingekayo yamaminerali asetshenziswa ezimbonini eziningi, njengokwenza iphepha, izitsha zobumba, irabha, imboni yamakhemikhali, okokugqoka, imithi kanye nokuvikela izwe, i-kaolin inepulasitiki ethile, eyenza umzimba wodaka lwe-ceramic uvumelane nokuphenduka, ukugxusha nokwakheka.

Indima ye-kaolin ku-ceramics ukwethula i-Al2O3, ehambisana nokwakheka kwe-mullite futhi ithuthukise ukuqina kwayo kwamakhemikhali namandla e-sintering.

I-Metakaolin (i-MK ngamafuphi) i-anhydrous aluminium silicate (Al2O3 · 2SiO2, AS2 ngamafuphi) eyakhiwe ukuphelelwa amanzi kwe-kaolin (Al2O3 · 2SiO2 · 2H2O, AS2H2 ngamafuphi) ekushiseni okufanele (600~900 ℃).I-Kaolin ingeyesakhiwo esinezingqimba ze-silicate, futhi izendlalelo ziboshwe ngebhondi ye-van der Waals, lapho ama-OH ions eboshwa khona ngokuqinile.Lapho i-kaolin ishiswa emoyeni, ukwakheka kwayo kuzoshintsha izikhathi eziningana.Uma ishiselwa cishe ku-600 ℃, ukwakheka okugqinsiwe kwe-kaolin kuzobhujiswa ngenxa yokuphelelwa amanzi emzimbeni, kwenze i-metakaolin yesigaba soshintsho enobucwebe obumpofu.Ngenxa yokuthi ukuhlelwa kwamangqamuzana e-metakaolin akuvamile, kwethula isimo sokumetastable kwe-thermodynamic futhi i-gellability ngaphansi kwenjabulo efanele.

I-Metakaolin iwuhlobo lwengxube yamaminerali esebenza kakhulu.Kuyi-amorphous aluminium silicate eyakhiwe yi-kaolin ecwebezelayo ebalwa ngokushisa okuphansi.Inomsebenzi we-pozzolanic ophezulu, osetshenziswa kakhulu njengengxube kakhonkolo, futhi ingasetshenziswa ukwenza ama-polymers we-geological asebenza kahle kakhulu.
